Nestled in the southwest corner of the province of British Columbia, Vancouver is a highly diverse world-class multi-cultural port city with 52% of residents speaking first languages other than English. Its popularity worldwide is based on a myriad of attractions, like stunning ocean and mountain views, a mild climate, welcoming and friendly citizens, plentiful recreational opportunities, a busy downtown business centre and world-renowned academic institutions. To expand capacity, the new Vancouver City Plan and Broadway Subway and Redevelopment Plans advocate densifying, with single family homes being replaced by multi-family dwellings and high-rises. Frequently, Vancouver hosts major international events, such as Expo ’86 and the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.
